FAQs

What is Missy Project?

Missy Project is a community dance organization founded by Maribel D. Flores. We create movement experiences for Black and Brown women, girls, and families — rooted in healing, cultural identity, and creative freedom. Every program is guided by the Choreographic Healing Framework (CHF), a methodology that blends improvisation, cultural body knowledge, and trauma-informed practice.

Do I need dance experience to participate?

No. There is no experience, no prerequisites, and no audition for any Missy Project program. All you need is a willingness to move.

Who are Missy Project programs for?

Community programs are designed for Black and Brown women, girls, and families. Corporate workshops are open to any organization ready to invest in embodied, culturally grounded team experiences. Private sessions and mentorship cohorts are open to individuals — reach out to Maribel directly to discuss fit.

Is Missy Project a therapy practice?

No. Missy Project is a community dance organization, not a licensed clinical practice. Programs are movement-based and informed by Dance Movement Therapy principles, but they are not a substitute for mental health treatment or clinical care.
